SEIKO Corporation of America announced on March 21 that US soccer icon Landon Donovan will be the watchmaker’s new Brand Ambassador. Donovan currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy, but is perhaps best known for scoring a last minute goal that led the US team to win the World Cup in 2010, defeating Algeria and winning the coveted Cup for the first time since 1930.
“I always have looked for a watch that keeps up with my active lifestyle, which is why I like the comfort, innovation and design of the SEIKO Sportura Collection,” said Donovan. “I am honored to be the first athlete to join the SEIKO family as a Brand Ambassador, and anticipate celebrating their dedication to perfection and launch of the new, dynamic timepieces that will once again demonstrate that SEIKO is the revolutionary frontrunner in watchmaking worldwide”
Seiko made the announcement as they prepare to celebrate their 130th Anniversary. This is the first ever brand spokesperson arrangement for the Seiko Corporation of American, the US arm of Seiko, one of the largest worldwide manufacturer of watches and clocks.

Seiko Corporation of America plans to feature Donovan in advertising for their Sportura Collection, a high-end sports watch collection. This represents a new direction for Seiko Sportura, whose latest Sportura collection will be unveiled March 24 during the opening day of BaselWorld, the international watch and jewelry fair in Basel Switzerland. Seiko Sportura was previously positioned as being “inspired by high-performance motor sport” and “designed for the road ahead”. Seiko at one time sponsored the BAR Honda Formula One Racing to tie in to the motor sports theme with packaging and advertising for Seiko Sportura tied in to the BAR Honda sponsorship.
