ArmourLite, a military and tactical inspired brand claims to have Tritium illumination that is 4x brighter than standard watches featuring Tritium. Because Tritium is generally used to read the watch in complete darkness once your eyes have adjusted, we felt this was worth testing. In this review we are comparing similar models, the Luminox 3059 and the ArmourLite Caliber AL602 and ArmourLite ISO302 which have a similar case design and colors (please note that the ArmourLite model is also available with a rubber strap, model A612 or bracelet model A622). The following photos have not been re-touched.
Although some may think the Tritium illumination is comparable, there is an immediate difference between the two when walking into a dark room, the ArmourLite watch is almost immediately visible, while the Luminox illumination becomes more apparent as your eyes adjust, and this is not something we can catch on camera. Both watches feature T25 Tritium. However, even when using a device like a camera, there is a difference in the brightness between the two:
We realized the watches do not have the same color Tritium, and some may argue the green is just easier to see in general, so we also did the same test with ArmourLite model ISO302 in the Isobrite Series. It has an orange dial and also features orange Tritium, much like the Luminox 3059. However, please note the Isobrite Series watches feature T100 Tritium which is brighter than the T25 Tritium, but you can see the difference in the color (and brightness) below.
Even the blue Tritium is impressive on the ArmourLite watch, along with the smaller green applications on the bezel which photographed crisp and clear.
Both the Luminox Colormark 3059 and ArmourLite Caliber AL612 have similar features, with some minor differences. Please note both watches do NOT have a screw down crown, instead they use a gasket system to maintain water resistance without having to screw it in.
