The Chase Durer CD246 Special Forces 1000 XL Underwater Demolition Team Chronograph was made popular by the hit TV series, “Burn Notice” however, production delays for this particular model have not been able to keep up with the demand. The ArmourLite AL88 has a similar design and is available at the fraction of the price for those who may want “the look” and not necessarily as a collectible or need all the technical features that the CD246 has.
Although the watches have a similar design, their features do vary. Both have Swiss movements, but the AL88 has a Ronda 5040D and the CD246 a 27 Jewel ETA 251.262. The water resistance on the AL88 is only 100 meters while the CD246 has a 300 meter water resistance. The AL88 is also a bit larger with a 47mm case width while the CD246 has a 44mm case width. The AL88 features T25 Tritium (visible in complete darkness without exposure to light) while the CD246 has a high grade Swiss-made Superluminova which will fade without further exposure to light. The CD246 also has a Tachymeter scale, while the AL88 does not. Both watches have a rotating bezel and date display, along with black stainless steel case and bracelet and a 2 Year Manufacturer Warranty.
Even with high price tag, CD246 has been one of Chase Durer’s most popular models, however production of these watches has not been able to keep up with the demand. Although the ArmourLite AL88 doesn’t have all the features the CD246 has, it has a similar design. You can purchase the AL88 which is currently available for $450.00, or the CD249 for $995.00 if you are willing to wait for it.
